The Government has today (Tuesday) confirmed full and unconditional approval for the Station Quarter business case, marking a major milestone in Peterborough’s regeneration journey.
The Department for Transport’s endorsement clears the way for the next phase of the project, with work expected to begin shortly on-site. The approval also unlocks the route to funding transfer, following extensive collaboration between the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, Peterborough City Council, and project partners.

Department for Transport Confirmation
In a formal letter to the Combined Authority, David Harding of the Department for Transport wrote:
“I am pleased to confirm that the conditions have been met and the Department has now provided full and unconditional approval of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayoral Combined Authority’s Full Business Case for delivery of the Peterborough Station Quarter Enhancements and Connectivity scheme.”
The Department will now work with local partners to finalise the Memorandum of Understanding and arrange the first payment to support delivery.
This approval follows the Roads and Local Investment Committee’s conditional endorsement on 28 April and reflects months of coordinated effort across agencies and elected representatives.
