Police have released dramatic footage showing the moment they arrested a drink driver who tried to flee at high speed and even drove directly at an officer.
Andrew Hodson, 42, was first spotted speeding in a black Mini Cooper on the A10 near Milton at about 9.40pm on Saturday, 27 September. When he pulled into a layby, officers approached — but Hodson suddenly accelerated towards the rear of their vehicle, forcing one officer to leap out of the way before he sped off.
The released footage captures the pursuit as police followed Hodson through Landbeach, where he hit 70mph in a 30mph zone, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and even switched off his lights in an attempt to escape. The chase ended in Cottenham when he turned into a dead-end and was arrested after failing a breath test.
Hodson, of High Street, Cottenham, admitted drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without a licence or insurance at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday (17 November). He received a three-year driving ban, a 36-week prison sentence suspended for two years, and a £646 fine.
PC Freddie Tomalin, who investigated, said: “Hodson’s driving was extremely reckless, particularly as he was also under the influence of alcohol.”
Police have made the arrest footage available on their YouTube channel.
