A lorry jack-knifed on the A10 Lynn Road at Littleport tonight (Monday), bringing traffic to a complete standstill in both directions and leaving nearby residents to manage the chaos for more than two hours before police arrived.
The crash happened at around 6.35pm. No other vehicles were involved and the driver escaped uninjured, according to local resident Steve Shipp, who was among the first on the scene.
With cars and lorries rapidly backing up and no emergency services in sight, Shipp, his father and several neighbours began directing traffic and helping drivers turn around where possible.

“Cars managed to turn back eventually,” he said, adding that many lorry drivers ran out of legal driving hours and were unable to move at all. A recovery wrecker did not arrive until later in the evening, and there was still no traffic flowing when it reached the scene.
Police did not arrive until 8.45pm, leaving residents to handle the mounting disruption as darkness set in.

Despite the long delays, no injuries were reported.
