A 66-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on 18 December on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position and misconduct in public office, Cambridgeshire Police has confirmed. The man was taken into custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station and later released on bail until 18 March.
CambsNews understands this latest arrest is unconnected to three earlier arrests linked to Peterborough City Council earlier in 2025.
“A 66-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on 18 December on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position and misconduct in public office,” said a police spokesperson.
“He was taken into custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station and later released on bail until 18 March.”
Earlier in 2025, three individuals – a woman in her 60s, a man in his 70s, and a man in his 80s – were arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Initially released on bail, all three remain under investigation with restrictions on discussing the case publicly to prevent prejudicing police inquiries.
Misconduct in public office, a criminal offence, occurs when a public official intentionally neglects duties or abuses their position, causing harm to the public interest.
