Two drug dealers have been jailed after neighbourhood police officers caught them following a dangerous high-speed pursuit through Ramsey. Officers from the Huntingdon Neighbourhood Team were on patrol when they spotted a black BMW suspected of displaying fake number plates at around 12pm on 20 November.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle on Bury Road, the driver accelerated away, sparking a dramatic chase onto the B1040 towards Warboys.
Car hit 80mph in 40mph zone
The BMW was seen overtaking other vehicles and reaching speeds of up to 80mph in a 40mph limit, putting members of the public at serious risk.
The car eventually came to a stop shortly before the Kings Ripton junction, where both occupants fled on foot.
Drugs thrown over gate during escape
Passenger Isiah Thurston was carrying a bag and was seen throwing it over a gate as he ran.
Officers recovered the bag and discovered wraps of cannabis and cocaine worth up to £7,380, along with £40 in cash. Thurston was also found with an additional £84 in his jacket pocket.
Knife, scales and over £1,000 cash found in BMW
A search of the vehicle uncovered:
- Two mobile phones
- Drug scales
- A knife in the driver’s door
- £1,075 in cash
The driver was identified as Stanley Rose, and both men were arrested at the scene.
Court sentencing
At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (13 February), the pair were sentenced for their roles in drug supply and the dangerous chase.
Stanley Rose jailed for over six years
Rose, 21, of Clayway, Ely, was sentenced to six years and two months after pleading guilty to:
- Dangerous driving
- Driving while disqualified
- Driving without a licence or insurance
- Fraudulent use of a registration mark
- Being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis
- Possession of a bladed article
He was also banned from driving for four years and 10 months.
Isiah Thurston sentenced to four years
Thurston, 25, of School Lane, Manea, received a sentence of four years and one month after pleading guilty to:
- Possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis
- Being concerned in the supply of both drugs
Police statement
Detective Constable Clair Godfrey, who led the investigation, said: “Rose and Thurston showed no regard for the safety of the public or the law.
“Their actions behind the wheel and their clear involvement in drug supply posed a significant risk to our communities. Thanks to the quick actions of our neighbourhood officers, their operation was stopped, and both men are now behind bars for a long time.”
