A man has been jailed after a late-night 100mph ride ended with his car flipping into a field and seriously injuring a passenger.
Leigh Shelton, 64, picked up three acquaintances in Littleport on 16 June after their own vehicle broke down. But as he headed along the A10 and A1101 towards Norfolk in his Honda Civic, he began overtaking traffic and accelerating to around 100mph.
Despite repeated pleas from his passengers to slow down, Shelton kept speeding until he lost control, left the road and rolled the car into a field. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where one passenger was taken to hospital with a broken wrist.
Shelton, of Fir Road, Thetford, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday (2 December) to two years and three months in prison.

Once released, he will be banned from driving for four years and must pass an extended re-test.
PC Benjamin Perry said the wreckage showed “how lucky everyone was to come out alive,” adding that Shelton’s “completely irresponsible” driving left passengers with both physical injuries and psychological trauma.
