A spokesperson for the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said…
“At 9.30pm on Sunday July 13th two crews were called to Flag Fen to a report of a fire involving a building within the grounds. Firefighters used two hose reels and hand tools to put out the fire and left the scene just after 11pm. The cause is believed to be deliberate.”
One of Peterborough’s beloved reconstructed roundhouses was severely damaged by fire on Sunday, marking a setback for the site that has long celebrated the area’s ancient heritage. These roundhouses are built on archaeological evidence from local digs, offering immersive glimpses into the domestic lives of Iron Age communities. Visitors can explore two distinct architectural styles, each reflecting different aspects of ancestral living—highlighting both their shared traditions and evolving designs.

This isn’t the first time the site has faced destruction. In 2020, an arson attack led to the loss of one structure, which was later painstakingly rebuilt thanks to community effort and dedication. Sunday’s fire revives painful memories but also reinforces the resilience of those committed to preserving local history.
