Anthony Williams is due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, facing a series of further charges connected to the major incident on a train at Huntingdon earlier this month.
Williams, 32, of Langford Road, Peterborough, has been charged with seven additional offences following a wider British Transport Police (BTP) investigation into his actions and the events leading up to the train incident.
According to BTP, the new charges relate to a series of alleged offences that occurred across Peterborough, Stevenage, and on board another train on 31 October. The fresh charges include:
-
Attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy at Henry Penn Walk, Peterborough
-
Attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH) against a 28-year-old man at Viersen Platz, Peterborough
-
Attempted murder of a 22-year-old man near Pleasure Fair Meadow Road, Peterborough
-
Affray and possession of a bladed article linked to an incident at Ritzy Barbers in Peterborough
-
Theft of knives from an Asda supermarket in Stevenage
-
Common assault of a 31-year-old man on a train travelling between Hitchin and Biggleswade
These allegations come in addition to the charges already authorised in relation to the Huntingdon incident.
Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy of BTP said the new charges were the result of an extensive, collaborative investigation.
“These are significant new charges of Anthony Williams,” he said. “Our investigation into the awful incident at Huntingdon has also focused on other offences previously reported to police or identified by our investigation. We have worked closely with our colleagues in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police alongside the Crown Prosecution Service to bring these charges.
“I would once again like to stress the importance of not saying or publishing anything which might jeopardise or prejudice ongoing criminal proceedings, or the integrity of the investigation.”
Earlier this month, Williams — then described as being of no fixed abode — was charged with 10 counts of attempted murder following the mass stabbing on the Doncaster to London King’s Cross service while the train was in Cambridgeshire. He has also been charged with an 11th count of attempted murder relating to the stabbing of a 17-year-old on the same service in east London.
Williams is expected in court later today.
