British Transport Police said officers and paramedics attended the scene at about 10:15 a.m. Another individual suffered minor injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The train, operated by CrossCountry, carried three carriages. Passengers were transferred to replacement coaches. “Our priority is the safety of colleagues and passengers,” said a CrossCountry spokesperson.
