A major emergency response is under way in Wisbech after a car carrying five teenagers plunged into the River Nene, leaving two people still unaccounted for.
Police say the vehicle, travelling southbound along North Brink in nearby Wisbech St Mary, left the road at around 8.20pm on Tuesday (March 17) before entering the water.
The group inside the car were aged between 16 and 18 — two males and three females.

Three of the occupants — two girls and one boy — managed to escape the vehicle and were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. They are currently being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn.
A teenage boy and girl remain missing, with specialist search operations continuing today.

Police, fire, and ambulance crews remain at the scene, with North Brink closed between Bevis Lane and Barton Road. Officers have warned the road is likely to stay shut for the rest of the day.
Specialist recovery support is understood to be en route, while the area has been treated as a crime scene — a standard procedure in incidents where people are missing.

Cambridgeshire Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone who was in the area at the time.
Anyone with information is urged to report it quoting incident 515 of March 17 via the force website or by calling 101.

A local resident told CambsNews there had been growing concern about the condition of the road in recent months, including reports of a large pothole.

However, police have stressed it is too early to speculate on the cause of the crash.
