PC Tom Maltby said the closure order was sought after “concerns were brought to our attention about open drug use around the flat and its neighbouring property – flat 25A which also has a partial closure order in place – as well as intimidating and anti-social behaviour.

A suspected drug dealer found inside a flat subject to a closure order was one of six people arrested there yesterday during a routine compliance check by Peterborough police. Among the six was Snowden Mayanika, 20, who was arrested at 25B Lincoln Road on Wednesday (3 January) by police who checked the flat after a partial closure order was served on it last month.

The flat was partially closed by police just before Christmas following complaints about drug use and anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Complaints from the local community had been made to police and partner agencies about drug supply, use and related anti-social behaviour surrounding use of the flat.

The order, which is in place until 19 March next year, states the flat is closed to anyone other than the legal tenant, emergency services, support services including Peterborough City Council employees, Cozy Homes staff and contractors for Cozy Homes.

It states the flat has been closed to visitors as its use had resulted in, or is likely to result in, serious nuisance to members of the public and/or there has been, or if the order is not made likely to be, disorder near the premises associated with its use.

Failure to comply with the order is a criminal offence which could result in imprisonment for up to three months, a fine, or both.

Mayanika, of Hereward Tower, Broadway, Peterborough, has been charged with breaching the closure order, possession with intent to supply heroin and possession with intent to supply crack cocaine.

PC Tom Maltby said the closure order was sought after “concerns were brought to our attention about open drug use around the flat and its neighbouring property – flat 25A which also has a partial closure order in place – as well as intimidating and anti-social behaviour.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court today (Friday).

Jessica Malpas, 34, of no fixed address, has been charged with breaching a closure order – she appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday) where she admitted the offence and was jailed for eight weeks.

A 37-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man were also arrested but released on bail until 2 April.

Two further arrests were made yesterday morning (Thursday) by officers carrying out compliance checks at the property again.

PC Tom Maltby said the closure order was sought after “concerns were brought to our attention about open drug use around the flat and its neighbouring property – flat 25A which also has a partial closure order in place – as well as intimidating and anti-social behaviour.

Cassandra Harvey, 31, and Laura Ungureanu, 45, both of no fixed address, have both been charged with breaching a closure order and are due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 19 January.

Anyone with information about the order being breached should contact us via Cambridgeshire police web chat service or online forms at www.cambs.police.uk/report.

Those without internet access should call 101.

“By taking this action we hope to provide some reassurance to the community that we have listened to their concerns and are taking action to resolve the issues.”
