A man who tried to drown his pregnant girlfriend before punching her in the stomach has been jailed. Harvey Browne, 20, carried out the attack at their home in Godmanchester, near Huntingdon, in August last year.
The court heard Browne attempted to force the woman under bath water before launching a violent tirade of abuse and assaulting her while she was pregnant.
Concerned neighbours alerted police, prompting officers to attend the property where Browne was arrested.
While on court bail, Browne contacted the victim and threatened to kill her, telling her he would “put her in a coffin” before police could help.
Browne, of Moselle Avenue, Haringey, Greater London, was later arrested for sending communications threatening death or serious harm.
He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and making threats to kill.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, April 27, Browne was sentenced to two years and nine months in a young offender institution. He was also handed a restraining order.

Detective Constable James Lewis, who investigated the case, said: “This was a brutal assault carried out behind closed doors designed to cause fear and suffering for the victim, who I would like to commend for the courage she has shown throughout the investigation.
“Domestic abuse can take many forms and often escalates quickly. If you or someone you know is experiencing violence or controlling behaviour, please know that support is available and we will always take reports seriously.”
