Internet bakery star George Hepher of St Ives was dramatically pulled from air during a live interview with Chris Mann yesterday (Monday) on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. George was being quizzed on his new book – Rebel Bakes – and how he had started from a stall at St Ives Farmers Market, when he reminded Chris of being previously interviewed after a run-in with the town clerk of St Ives.

As he tried to explain the background, Chris abruptly halted the interview, and warned George “I am really sorry, you can’t be saying that”.

George then asked, ‘which comment’? to which Chris replied: “We need not to be discussing that- tell you want we’ll play a bit of music; we’ll talk when we come back”.

Once the track ended, Chris reminded his listeners he was talking to George Hepher “telling us about his best-selling Rebel Bakes”.

But Chris insisted: “I need you to withdraw that earlier comment and apologise”.

Which George promptly did, saying “I apologise, and I retract my comment”.

George was then able to explain about his book, and the inclusion of “some of my best sellers from the market and online”.

The celebrity baker – who has racked up 600,000 followers across Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook, also explained the “secret” of great cooking which included having the right tins, and a good thermometer to check temperatures.
