A Cambridgeshire paedophile and registered sex offender spared jail three years ago after being caught with more than 1,600 child abuse images on his phone, is tonight behind bars after flouting a court order by having software on his phone which wiped his internet history.

Adrian Miles appeared before Exeter Crown Court in 2022, when he admitted having a sexual interest in children but told the court he wanted to change his ways. Miles, then living in Reading, was given a suspended sentence for making indecent images of children and ordered to attend a sex offender treatment programme.

The court had heard that police also found children’s clothing bought by Miles when they searched his property in Honiton, Devon.

On February 1, 2024, Miles, 58, was visited by officers at his home in Cherry Court, Cambourne near Cambridge.

The officers found he had installed a data cleaning app and deleted monitoring software on his phone.

He had also not informed officers about an Amazon cloud storage account.

All of this put Miles in breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order handed down by Exeter Crown Court following a conviction for making indecent images of children.

On Tuesday (2 September) at Huntingdon Law Courts, Miles was jailed for 20 months, having pleaded guilty to three counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

DC Paul Evans, from the force’s management of sexual and violent offenders department, said: “Miles was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposed clear restrictions designed to safeguard the public. His breaches demonstrated a disregard for the legal boundaries set by the court.

“The fact he’s been jailed reflects the gravity of the offences and the importance of upholding protective measures for the safety of others.”

In 2022, the judge at Exeter Crown Court had warned Miles he had avoided immediate prison ‘by the skin of his teeth’.

Prosecutor Miss Victoria Bastock said police executed a warrant at his address in February 2020. They seized his mobile phone and found a total of 1,631 indecent images of children. The majority of the children in the images were aged between six and 12.

Miles pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent images of children.

He has a previous conviction for identical offences in 2016 and also indecently assaulting an adult in 1995.

A report by Devon Live news website reported that Mr Herc Ashworth, defending, said Miles led an isolated life due to a social phobia. He has chronic fatigue syndrome, bipolar disorder and does not work. He was upset about his cat dying in 2019.

“Prison would be more difficult for him than most other people,” said Mr Ashworth. He said only a small number of the indecent images were in the most serious category.

Miles was jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years. He was made subject to the SHPO and the sex offenders register for ten years and ordered to attend a sex offender programme.
