A Whittlesey man who subjected his girlfriend to a “terrifying” and sustained assault — including strangling her until she passed out — has been jailed.
Adam Marchant, 32, of West End, flew into a rage in February after accusing his partner of speaking to her child’s father.
As she drove home from a friend’s house, Marchant grabbed the steering wheel, smashing the car into a metal flood gate before dragging her into the passenger seat and speeding home.
The violence escalated once they arrived. Marchant pulled the victim from the car, pinned her against another vehicle and strangled her until she lost consciousness.
When she came to and tried to flee, he put her in a headlock, hauled her indoors and seized her phone to stop her calling for help.
Inside, he blocked the door while holding a knife, telling the victim she could not leave and threatening to kill himself.
She eventually escaped by grabbing the keys when he put them down, locking herself in her car and calling police.

Marchant admitted two counts of intentional strangulation, driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, 21 November, he was jailed for two years and eight months, given a ten-year restraining order and banned from driving for two years and four months.
Detective Constable Elouise Hicks praised the victim’s courage, saying: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, and I commend her bravery in escaping and contacting us. Domestic abuse in any form is unacceptable.”
