A man who was seen brandishing a machete in Peterborough on Boxing Day has been jailed.
Ajmel Saqikhel, 30, was seen with the machete in Northfield Road, New England, at about 6pm on 26 December.
Officers attended, arrested Saqikhel and found the machete nearby.
Saqikhel, of no known address, admitted possession of a bladed article in a public place.
On Monday, 29 December, at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court he was jailed for a year.
PC Mia Wenham said: “This sentence demonstrates how seriously the courts take knife crime.
“We’re working hard to combat the issue and I’d like to thank the member of the public who reported Saqikhel’s actions.”
