The Rotary Club of Whittlesey welcomed an inspiring guest speaker — 17-year-old local darts player Mitchell Brightwell — who is quickly making a name for himself in the sport.
The club has now announced its sponsorship of the promising young athlete, recognising both his dedication to darts and the positive example he sets for young people across the town.
Dedication and determination on the oche
Mitchell’s commitment to his sport is already setting him apart. Practising for up to five hours a day while competing in local, national and international tournaments, he has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic at a young age.
Rotary members said they were impressed not only by his sporting ambition but also by his motivation and attitude, describing him as an inspirational figure for other young people in Whittlesey.
New youth ambassador role announced
As part of the partnership, Mitchell will take on the role of youth ambassador for the Rotary Club of Whittlesey. In this position, he will help shape ideas and initiatives aimed at engaging younger residents in community activities.
He also hopes to attend Rotary charity events, where he will give talks and darts demonstrations to support fundraising efforts.

Speaking about the sponsorship, Mitchell said he was delighted to receive the club’s backing and honoured to become a youth ambassador. He added that the encouragement of his friends and family has played an important role in helping him progress in the sport.
Supporting young people in the community
Rotary Club President Kevin Buckland praised Mitchell’s achievements and potential.
He said: “Supporting young people is key to our work in the community, and it is great to see a young man like Mitchell blazing a trail and putting Whittlesey on the map.”
Mitchell is currently seeking two additional sponsors to support his continuing development, and residents can follow his progress via his Facebook page.
Rotary welcomes new members
The Rotary Club of Whittlesey meets twice a month at the Falcon Inn, combining social activities with fundraising for local good causes. Over the years, the club has raised tens of thousands of pounds for community projects and charities.
The organisation is open to everyone and is keen to welcome new members interested in supporting local initiatives while enjoying social interaction.
