A man who threatened an Uber driver at knifepoint before stealing his vehicle has been jailed. Jason Edgar, 40, of Athlone Close, Papworth Everard, ordered an Uber to Riverside Road in Huntingdon just after midnight on 28 November.
As the vehicle arrived, Edgar attempted to get into the driver’s seat before climbing into the rear and holding a knife to the driver’s neck.
He demanded the driver switch off the vehicle’s CCTV camera and ordered him to drive towards Cambourne.
When they reached Ermine Street South, Edgar told the driver to pull over and declared he was stealing the car.
Fearing for his life, the driver, a man in his 40s, handed over the keys and walked away before calling police.
Officers located Edgar in the early hours in School Lane, Cambourne, where he was arrested.
At Huntingdon Law Courts on Friday (13 March), Edgar was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.
Detective Constable Valentin Radulescu, who investigated the case, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim who feared for his life that evening.
“Thanks to the victim’s quick actions and the fast response from officers, we were able to locate and arrest Edgar. I hope this sentence reassures the public that there is zero tolerance for anyone who carries a weapon or threatens violence in our communities.”
