None but the brave seems to be the motto for drivers – cars, vans, tractors, and HGVs – determined to cross the Wash Road at Welney.

Despite warning signs clearly stating this part of the A1101 through Cambridgeshire is closed because of flooding, it has not deterred many from crossing.

“Some vehicles are travelling through the water although this won’t be so straightforward during the hours of darkness if the level creeps up any further,” says the ever-helpful Welney Flood Watch Facebook group.

“Water levels on the road- on the shallower side travelling towards Welney around 1 or 2 inches on that deeper side travelling towards Littleport 6 or 7 inches,” the group advised.

But the water crossing the road is fast flowing, and the Facebook group advise that, as always, if you are unsure then find another route.

Welney Flood Watch group is managed by volunteers and the information provided “is intended to inform interested parties as to the up-to-date position of the flooding of the A1101 road through the village of Welney, Norfolk
