In 2001 when I bought a plot of land in Hampton, who could have predicted that I would serve the Hampton community for 25 years, first through my restaurant and more recently as ward councillor for Peterborough City Council. Throughout that time, it has been an immense privilege to serve the Hampton community and the wider city.

It is therefore with mixed feelings, that I have decided not to seek re-election this year.
A big part of my role has been assisting thousands of residents with individual issues, while collectively the challenge has always been to ensure infrastructure is in place for our fast-growing and developing community. Examples include the opening of extra school classes to accommodate new families moving in, running litter picks for over 8 years and more recently trying to assist in the delivery of a brand new Hampton Medical Centre. NHS Hampton said: “We greatly appreciate Cllr Farooq’s help not only in assisting us to secure the land but also guiding us through the planning process.”

Thank you for your support and friendship over these many years. You will still see me around as I continue my work in Hampton through my charity and community projects.
