There appears to have been a development in the search for the body of the 18-year-old driver of a car that crashed into the River Nene at Wisbech a week ago.
Emergency services including fire crews, police and ambulances were by the river along North Brink, and near the village of Wisbech St Mary, on Tuesday more than 2 miles from the crash scene.
A blue Volkswagen Polo carrying five teenagers left the road and plunged into the River Nene at North Brink, Wisbech St Mary, Cambridgeshire, at around 8:20pm on Tuesday 17 March 2026.
The vehicle had two boys and three girls inside, all aged 16–18. Three passengers — two 16-year-old girls and an 18-year-old boy — managed to escape, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
Divers recovered the body of Eden Bunn, 16, from Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire (believed to have been a rear-seat passenger) on Wednesday 18 March. Her family described her as the “kindest, most loving girl”.
Declan Berry, 18, from Wisbech — believed to have been driving — has so far remained missing.
Declan’s family has spoken of their heartbreak and plans to create a memorial on the riverbank — a platform with seating — so people can sit, contemplate, and remember both Declan and Eden.
