Bus with children on board collides with van that bursts into flames on A47 between Guyhirn and Peterborough

A miracle was how it was being described tonight as a van burst into flames after colliding with a bus carrying children on the A47 in Cambridgeshire tonight and all involved escaped without injury.  Dramatic photos of the immediate aftermath of the inferno were released by Cambridgeshire police who were quickly on the scene of the crash on the A47 Thorney Toll near Guyhirn.

“Thankfully there were no serious injuries reported at scene,” said a police spokesperson.

Police from the Wisbech Neighbourhood Policing Team along with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue and East of England Ambulance Service attended the scene of the crash at the junction with Black Drove.

“The collision was between a van and a bus carrying school children, with the van then catching fire,” said the police spokesperson.

“Fire crews from Wisbech and March attended and extinguished the fire before a recovery operation took place to remove the vehicles that were blocking the road.

“Once the vehicles were recovered Highways England attended to assess the damage to the road, which will need to be repaired, resulting in the A47 being now fully closed. “

Police said an investigation has started into the crash and has asked anyone driving along the A47 if they any dashcam footage to please call 101 and quote incident 310 of today.

Police said the A47 remains closed from Guyhirn to New Cut /A47 Thorney bypass.

“Highways England are looking to place traffic lights at the affected area and reopen the road while they carry out repairs that are required,” said the spokesperson.
