The family of a young Saudi student tragically killed in a brutal attack in Mill Park, Cambridge on Friday night (August 1) have spoken out in an emotional tribute.
Mohammed Algasim, 20, was just weeks into a 10-week English study placement in Cambridge when his life was cut short.
Describing him as “a young man brimming with courage and compassion,” his devastated family said:
“He was a dutiful son, a loving brother, the quiet leader of our family. He was cheerful, selfless, and left a mark on every soul he met. He became the very heart of our family gatherings—his father’s rock, his mother’s joy, his sisters’ safe place.”

The touching statement paints a portrait of a charismatic and kind-hearted young man, whose life ended far too soon.
Chas Corrigan, 21, of Holbrook Road, Cambridge, appeared in court this morning charged in connection with the incident. He’s been remanded in custody and will next appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday (August 6).
Corrigan has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He first appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today (4 August).
A 50-year-old man, also from the city, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in custody.
Note: The victim’s surname has appeared in some reports as Al-Qassim, but official documents confirm the correct spelling as ALGASIM, which police and courts are using for the investigation.
