A man who kicked a woman in the face, fracturing her eye socket and cheekbone, in an unprovoked attack has been jailed for six years. Kosta Dimitrov, 36, had pestered the 38-year-old victim, claiming he was in love with her, before launching the savage assault in Baker Park on Westfield Road on 2 July last year.
The victim had been sitting with friends when Dimitrov approached from behind and kicked her several times to the head before punching her.
As the attack unfolded, her friends ran to get help, alerting a nearby couple who stepped in and pulled Dimitrov away.
Fearing he would return, the women fled and called police once home — believing their friend had been killed.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene. The victim was taken to hospital and was barely able to speak due to the severity of her injuries.

Initially too frightened to identify her attacker, the victim later admitted she feared Dimitrov, who had persistently pestered her and claimed he was in love with her.
Officers were at the caller’s home when Dimitrov turned up, walked towards them with his hands in the air and said: “it’s me” — before being arrested.
Dimitrov, of Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm and jailed at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday (23 February).

PC Joshua Lawrence said: “The victim had every right to reject Dimitrov’s advances and for him to respond in the brutal way he did was despicable.
“The victim and her friends were understandably fearful of Dimitrov so I would thank them all for their bravery, particularly the victim, as it helped us to bring a prosecution and secure a sentence that reflects the severity of the assault.”
