Police officers hit the highways in a specially adapted lorry as part of a no-nonsense crackdown on drivers glued to their mobiles.
Road policing officers from the Commercial Vehicle Unit patrolled major routes across Cambridgeshire in a high-visibility operation designed to catch motorists breaking the law.
🚧 OPERATION ROADWATCH: THE ROUTES TARGETED
On Monday 26 January, the team rolled out across key roads including:
- A1(M)
- A1307
- A14
- M11
And it didn’t take long before offenders were spotted…
📱 SIX MOTORISTS CAUGHT ON THEIR PHONES
In total, officers nabbed six drivers using mobile phones while behind the wheel.
But that wasn’t all…
⚠ MORE DANGEROUS DRIVING OFFENCES REVEALED
Police also stopped vehicles for:
- careless driving
- insecure loads
- excessively tinted windows
Offending motorists were photographed and reported — now facing a £200 fine and six penalty points on their licence.
🗣 WARNING FROM THE SERGEANT
Sergeant Chris Payne didn’t mince his words:
“Unfortunately, too many motorists fail to appreciate how their actions behind the wheel can impact themselves, their passengers, and others sharing the road.”

He added that even a split-second distraction can have devastating consequences:
“If you feel the urge to use your mobile whilst driving, it’s best to put it safely out of reach in the glove box or boot.”
And the message is clear — police aren’t backing down:
“We are committed to continuing our efforts to clamp down on those who disregard the law.”
