Horrific footage of the moment a man ‘turned his black Kia into a weapon’ and crashed into a moped has been released by Cambridgeshire police. It follows the jailing of Omar Harris for deliberately driving his car into the moped rider.

Omar, 33, got out of his car unharmed while his victim fled the scene on foot.

The incident happened just after 2pm on 1 August in Eagle Way, Northstowe.

Harris was called by his girlfriend to the street after an argument she was having with the victim began to escalate.

While on route to the scene Harris also crashed into a parked Fiat 500 in Stirling Road causing considerable damage to the vehicle but failed to stop and report it.

When he arrived in Eagle Way he mounted the pavement in the Kia, throwing the victim off his scooter, before flipping the vehicle onto its side and into a house.

The victim, in his 20s, suffered superficial injuries to his legs, arms and back.

At Peterborough Crown Court yesterday (3 February) Harris, of no fixed address, was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

He admitted attempted grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.

He was also disqualified from driving for a year and 10 months and has been given an indefinite restraining order not to contact the victim.

Detective Constable Callum Fullwood, who investigated, said: “The level of violence used by Harris in this case was appalling.

“He used his car as a weapon and can consider himself lucky that no one was killed and that no other innocent members of the public were injured by his reckless actions.”

July 2024 and I visited Ben’s Yard. Part of what I wrote on social media at the time: “Some days you come across places you can't quite grasp what the point of them are. The weather is lovely, they serve a decent coffee and the restaurant looks ok. “But very few 'outlets' and some pop up craft stalls today add a little variety. I remain sceptical though if it can survive long term.” PHOTO: John Elworthy
