A man was assaulted by a group of up to five youths wearing balaclavas in a daytime attack in Wisbech. The incident happened in Ramnoth Road at around 1.50pm on Wednesday (March 25) as the victim was walking to a work-related appointment.
One of the attackers reportedly jumped out from bushes, shouting abuse including “oi gay boy”, before grabbing him. Four others then appeared and joined in the assault.
The victim was kicked in the legs but managed to break free and seek help. He later attended a nearby hospital for a precautionary check-up.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said:
“We were called at about 1.50pm on Wednesday (25 March) to Ramnoth Road, Wisbech, after reports of an assault.
“The victim suffered very minor injuries and there were no arrests.
“A crime of common assault has been raised and an investigation is ongoing.”
Officers are appealing for information and are particularly keen to review any CCTV or doorbell footage from the area.

Under Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, common assault is defined as an act in which a person intentionally or recklessly causes another to suffer or fear immediate unlawful violence.
