Son ‘borrows’ dad’s car before writing it off in Cambridgeshire crash

Crash happened two days ago on the A1123 Dimmock’s Cote Road between Stretham and Wicken

His son had some explaining to do when a father was woken by police and asked if he was okay after his car had crashed into a pylon. It turned out the son had taken his dad’s Citroen without consent and the first he knew of the crash was police on his doorstep.

“The driver had left the scene,” said a post on Policing East Cambridgeshire Facebook.

Police released photos of the crash on the A1123 Dimmock’s Cote Road between Stretham and Wicken. The driver was not insured.

“Officers tracked down the registered keeper and paid him a visit to ensure nobody was injured or missing.

“To the officer’s surprise, the owner was fast asleep, as it was his son who had taken the car and driven it without insurance and on a provisional licence.”

Police say the son has now been reported for the offences.
