Danielle Jones, from Huntingdon, has launched a GoFundMe campaign raising funds for her uncle David after he was seriously injured in a crash on the M11 with an articulated lorry last Monday.

David, 49, was crushed by the engine of his van following the collision – suffering two fractured hips, five compound fractures to both of his legs, femur, tibia and fibula, multiple fractured ribs, and lacerations to his liver and spleen.

He has had three surgeries so far and has been in ITU on a ventilator for the past few days.

David works for the British Heart Foundation as a self-employed driver and lives on a houseboat with his two teenage daughters.

Given his situation, the family are currently trying to sell this and find him a home better suited to his needs once he’s out of the hospital.

So far Danielle has raised over £1k with a £1.8k target. Here is the link to donate:

Danielle will also be doing a sponsored 30-minute ice bath to raise funds.

Last Monday evening our lives as a family changed following a crash on the M11 that involved my Uncle, David, 49.

He was crushed by the engine of his van following a collision with an artic lorry. He had two fractured hips, five compound fractures to both of his legs, femur, tib and fib, multiple fractured ribs, and laceration to his liver and spleen. He has had three surgeries so far and has been on ITU on a ventilator the past few days.

As a family, we want to thank all the people who stopped to assist and called 999 as they definitely saved his life. He has a very long road of recovery ahead. Josh and I feel confident that we can provide ongoing rehabilitation and complementary therapy support to David. Once he’s out of hospital and on the mend, this will be our priority.

We would also like to thank the police who collected my grandparents and blue lighted them to the hospital and obviously all the amazing nurses, doctors, surgeons, etc. that fought to save his life.

Thank you to Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service, who we’ve recently discovered were first on the scene to cut David out. Thanks to you, we still have our brother, father, son, uncle, and friend. you are all worth your weight in gold.

It is still early days and obviously a few more surgeries to go and a long recovery, but as a family, we cannot say thank you enough. We will all be prioritising his wellbeing and recovery.

David works for the British Heart Foundation as a self-employed driver. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before he is able to walk, let alone work. While David would be reluctant to ask for help, we have decided to set up a fundraiser to support him with finances until he is out of the hospital.

If anyone knows of any charities or grants we can apply for to help ease the financial burden, allowing David to focus on his recovery, we would be truly grateful.

If you feel called to make a donation no matter how small we are so grateful.

News for Peterborough and Cambridgeshire - Planning officers were scathing. Their verdict? Demolishing the former Barclays bank in Broad Street without a replacement would leave March with a toothless grin – a gaping hole in the high street. The site sits right in the heart of the March Conservation Area, sandwiched between the Grade II listed War Memorial and the grand old Bank House. March has just had a multi-million pound facelift on Broad Street – new paving, smart public spaces, spruced-up heritage.
