A leisure centre at the centre of a heartbreaking tragedy has released a full statement after a seven-year-old boy died following an incident on its grounds.
In a message issued today (April 9), Priory Golf and Activity Centre confirmed the child had been reported missing before being found on site on Easter Monday.
Statement from Priory Golf and Activity Centre (April 9) “On Monday 6th April 2026 at approximately 2:00pm, a 7-year-old child who had been reported missing in the local area was found on our premises.
Our team immediately contacted the police, assisted the child, and administered CPR until emergency services arrived. As a result of this incident, the centre was closed for the remainder of the day.
Tragically, we were informed the following day that the child had passed away.
Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with the child’s family and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
Out of respect for the family and for us, and following guidance from the police, we will not be providing any further details at this time. We kindly ask that others refrain from sharing speculation or rumours on social media.
The safety and wellbeing of all children on our site remains our highest priority. We would like to reassure our customers that this tragic incident was unrelated to our operations or activities, and the centre continues to operate as usual.

Emergency services were called to Wimblington, near March, Cambridgeshire, at around 2:00pm on Easter Monday following reports of a child in the water.
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) dispatched a significant response, including an ambulance, ambulance officer vehicle, rapid response vehicle and the Magpas Air Ambulance.
The boy was taken to Peterborough City Hospital, where he later died.
Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the child had been found in a small pond at Priory Golf and Activity Centre. Officers have stated the death is not being treated as suspicious, no arrests have been made, and a file has been passed to the coroner.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called at around 2pm with concern for a person.
We can confirm that the death is non-suspicious and it has been passed to the coroner.”
Next Steps
The case has now been referred to the coroner, who will establish the full circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
