Residents across Wisbech are being invited to cheer on competitors as Ironworks Gym hosts a charity truck pull event in support of the East Anglian Air Ambulance on June 28.

The event, organised by Luke Woodbridge, will see competitors attempt to pull a massive 21-ton truck over a distance of 10 metres in a race against the clock.

The challenge will take place at Ironworks Gym, based at 24 Europa Way, Wisbech, PE13 2TZ.

Organiser Luke Woodbridge is encouraging more competitors to sign up for the charity truck pull challenge.

Competitors will compete in men’s and women’s divisions, with prizes awarded to the Fastest Man and Fastest Woman. Organisers say spaces are limited to just 12 competitors per category, with entry costing £10.

Woodbridge said preparations for the event are “shaping up nicely” and encouraged more people to sign up and take part.

“Right now, we’ve got six or seven men and three women signed up to pull. We need more muscles on the rope,” he said.

The event starts at 10am, with doors opening from 9am for arrivals and warm-ups. Organisers expect the competition to finish at around 2pm.

The charity event will include food, refreshments and fundraising activities for supporters and spectators.

Visitors can expect more than just strength contests on the day. An ice cream van from Whippy Ices will be on site, while organisers are also arranging food options, including a BBQ if a food truck cannot attend. Overflow parking has also been arranged nearby along the truck pull route.

Funds raised from the day will go directly towards the lifesaving work carried out by the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which provides emergency critical care across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The charity’s specialist doctors and paramedics deliver advanced treatment including blood transfusions, anaesthesia and emergency surgery at the scene of serious incidents.

Supporters unable to attend in person can still donate online through Luke Woodbridge’s fundraiser page.
