‘Welney Wash it’s almost here bor…’ was how Norfolk born regular on Twitter described it – and he’s correct.

The warning signs are up and as our photographs show, water levels across Welney Wash make the road impassable for most.

The road – part of the A1101 – borders Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

Welney Flood Watch, the Facebook group that monitors the levels, says “water is crossing the road for a stretch of about 100m with the depth in the shallow part around 2 inches.

“The deeper sides are up to 6inches more flood water on the last corner before Welney out across the white line now.”

The group posted that half barriers are now across both bridges and flashing signs are showing the approximate depth.

“There are delays in the system updating due to a lost aerial and a tree obscuring some of the solar panel, this will hopefully be corrected in due course,” says the Facebook group.

“We expect levels will be higher by morning, the peak could be around midnight if the trend follows today. Drive with care.”
