A councillor urged the owner of a car parked near the river in St Neots to move it quickly or risk it being submerged. “Does anyone know who owns this car? It’s about to be flooded,” said Cllr Stephen Ferguson, the independent councillors for St Neots East and Gransden.

He posted the photo to social media with a warning that “the flooding situation is starting to look serious in St Neots towns centre – where the River Great Ouse is about to breach”.

“Please take immediate action if you live in School Lane and Wheatsheaf Road in Eaton Socon, Wren Walk, Hardwick Road and St Marys Street in Eynesbury, St Neots Road, Mill Hill Road and Cross Hall Road in Eaton Ford, High Street, Priory Road, New Street, Hawthorn Road and Leys Road in St Neots,” he said.

“The river has already breeched the wall in Brook Street, and with more rain expected things are likely to get worse.”

Huntingdonshire District Council said there are flood warnings and alerts in place across Huntingdonshire.

“River levels are rising in places or remain high in response to last night’s rainfall. Take care on riverside roads and footpaths, and don’t put yourself in unnecessary danger,” the council said.

As a precautionary measure, it has closed St Neots Riverside Car Park today.

“Be ready to take action to protect your property if flooding is expected. Move parked cars out of flood risk areas and avoid walking or driving through flood water. We are monitoring the situation.”
